FORT WORTH — Gordon Thomas Hendon, 72, passed away peacefully Friday, May 24, 2013, at a local nursing home.
Burial: Gordon will be laid to rest in Fairview Cemetery near Springville, Ala., at a later date.
Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to The Salvation Army or The Shriner Hospital in Houston, 6977 Main St., Houston, Texas 77030.
Gordon was born to Thomas Gordon and Annie Kathryn Hendon in Huntsville, Ala., on Jan. 8, 1941. He proudly served three years in the U.S. Army and five years in the U.S. Air Force. Gordon met “Peggy,” the love of his life, and they married April 15, 1967, in St. Petersburg, Fla. He graduated from the University of South Florida with a bachelor of arts in accounting.
Gordon owned and operated his own accounting firm in Naples, Fla. He and his wife moved to Juneau, Alaska, in 1975 where he held several auditing positions for the state of Alaska and they later moved to Fort Worth in 2001.
Gordon had many accomplishments consisting of being a member of American Institute of CPA as well as Florida Institute of CPA. While living in Juneau, he was a member of Juneau Yacht Club and U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary. In Fort Worth, he was a member of Elks Lodge 124, American Legion Post 297, and The Parker County Sportsman Club. Gordon was also a 33rd-degree Mason and a Shriner.
Survivors: Wife of 46 years, Margaret Kathleen “Peggy” Hendon; sister, Ida Lucille Colvin; sister, Annie Elizabeth Taylor; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; and many friends.
