Barbara Ruth “Bobbie” Smith Halpenny

FORT WORTH–Barbara Ruth (Bobbie) Smith Halpenny, 96, of Fort Worth, Texas, passed away Sunday, July 16, 2017.

Celebration of life: 11a.m., Saturday, July 22, at Arlington Heights Methodist Church, 4200 Camp Bowie Blvd, Fort Worth, Texas, 76107. Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, July 21 at Brown Owens & Brumley Family Funeral Home. Burial will follow at 2 p.m. in Moore Memorial Park, Arlington.

Bobbie was born in Washington, Iowa, on September 24, 1920. If this achievement was not enough, she packed a lot of milestones in her life. She attended Iowa State University and then the University of Texas where she met her future husband, Lloyd. They married at the University of Texas Methodist Church (on campus) in 1940. After Dad graduated in 1940, they moved to San Diego, California for his first job as an engineer. When Convair was established, they moved to Fort Worth where they lived for the rest of their lives. Lloyd was the first engineer hired at Convair Fort Worth (later General Dynamics and now Lockheed).

Mom and Becky have been members at Arlington Heights Methodist Church for 61 years. This year our Mom was honored as part of “The Legacy Project”.

Our Mom has been a strong and loyal Christian woman of God her whole life. She was an amazing (quiet) Mom who supported her husband and children in every possible and positive way. She was an advocate and protector for Becky her whole life. She is now celebrating with Dad in heaven. This world was blessed by her life, and presence. We love you forever MOM!

Survivors: Bobbie and Lloyd have five children; Don, Barbara, Rebecca, Robert, and Walter; thirteen grandchildren; and currently 21 great-grandchildren.
