Carlos Garza Sr.

FORT WORTH — Carlos Garza Sr., 69, went to be with the Lord on Monday, May 20, 2013.
Funeral Mass: 10 a.m. Friday at St. Rita Catholic Church. Visitation: 5 p.m. Thursday at Brown, Owens & Brumley Funeral Home, with rosary following at 6 p.m.
Memorials: Should friends desire, memorials in lieu of flowers may be sent to the American Heart Association.
Carlos was born May 31, 1943, to Henry Garza Sr. and Maria Louisa Saenz Garza in San Antonio. He was a graduate of Burbank High School in San Antonio.
At the age of 15, he received his journeyman plumber’s license and received his master plumber’s license in 1968. He was recognized in the Texas Who’s Who of Professional Plumbers for his accomplishments. Carlos began Garza Plumbing in 1968, and after a long, successful career in commercial and industrial plumbing, he retired at the age of 65.
Carlos met Ernestina Sandoval at a dance in San Antonio. Ernestina took pity and danced with the handsome, young man who dared to wear Hush Puppies shoes to a dance. The two married in September 1968 and continued their dance together for the next 44 years. The couple had seven children, while living in Brady. The family moved to Arlington in 1990. In 2010, the Tarrant Council on Marriage recognized Carlos and Ernestina’s union on Hispanic Marriage Day.
During retirement, he enjoyed his vegetable garden and testing his luck at casinos in Oklahoma. He was known as “Mr. Friendly” to all his casino companions.
Carlos was preceded in death by Carlos Garza Jr.
Survivors: Beloved wife, Ernestina; Dolores Garza; Regina and Javier Puente; Ninfa and Steve Louden; Joe and Annie Garza; Anthony and DeAnna Garza; Ernesto and Erica Garza; 17 grandchildren; and countless friends.
