Imogene M. Simmons Walker

FORT WORTH — Imogene M. Simmons Walker, 90, of Fort Worth and formerly of Haworth and Idabel, Okla., passed away peacefully Sunday, Nov. 30, 2014, at a local hospital, surrounded by her children.
Graveside service: 2 p.m. Wednesday in Gilliam Cemetery. Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Brown Owens & Brumley Family Funeral Home.
Imogene was born April 23, 1924, and lived a long, courageous and fruitful life. She was one of two children born to Dutch Veatrice Harris Simmons and Richard Ora Simmons of Lebanon, Mo. In addition to being a devoted wife, mother of eight and good friend, Imogene was a highly skilled Avon sales associate. She was recognized frequently for her sales ability and leadership expertise.
In her last few years of life, Imogene was an example of strength and courage. She loved life and was ferocious in her fight to remain with her family as long as possible. She is remembered by her friends and family as someone who was always present in time of need, loved gardening and flowers, loved her coffee and, above all, loved enjoying great food with family and friends. Most of all, her family will always remember her devotion and love for each of her children. Imogene will be missed here in the short term, but will be reunited with her loved ones already in heaven, and those in Christ in the future.
Imogene was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Jessie Walker; mother, Dutch Veatrice Simmons; father, Richard Simmons; and sister, Ozeta Simmons Cook.
Survivors: Daughters, Regina Franklin of Fort Worth, Glenda Rupert of York Springs, Pa., and Donna Kirby, Renee’ Walker and Carla Walley, all of Fort Worth; sons, twins, Kim and Tim Walker of Fort Worth, and Jesse Walker of Fort Worth; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and her wonderful, devoted caregivers.
