Fort Worth’s Oldest and First Funeral Home - Since 1879

John Edward Boyd

John Edward Boyd, 74, of Fort Worth passed away in Clifton, Texas Tuesday, August 27, 2019.
Mass of Christian Burial: 1:00 p.m. Saturday, September 7, 2019 at Good Shepherd Catholic Community, 1000 Tinker Rd., Colleyville, TX 76034. (817)421-1387
John was born February 26, 1945 in Lansdowne, Pennsylvania to the late Willis and Evelyn (O’Hollywood) Boyd. He attended Monsignor Bonner Catholic High School in Drexel Hill, PA. He traveled the country working in sales and marketing for manufacturers of cars and RVs, and he owned and operated a video rental store. After retiring, John raised money for Alzheimer’s research, including writing letters to the president. He married Karen Threadgill, and they shared 42 happy years together. He had a deep faith and was a member of Good Shepherd Catholic Community Church.
John Boyd will be remembered as kind, generous, affable, optimistic, and funny. His family will remember trips together, poker games, and “dad jokes” galore (e.g., Child: “I’m going to take a shower.” Dad: “Bring it back when you’re done!”). We will remember rolling coins and nacho night and board games, block parties and motorhomes and banana trees, dogs and naps and swimming pools. His littlest grandkids will remember him reading to them, taking them to the water park, and teaching them silly tricks. He taught Michelle how to play basketball and softball and how to throw a spiral football. He taught her all the state capitals. He taught her to appreciate gardening, traveling, Halloween, classic horror films, fine dining, and great jazz. He taught her how to find the humor in anything. He loved reading and writing fiction. His favorite travel spot was Hawaii. He had a playful nickname for everyone he loved. He liked his watermelon with salt. He was a wonderful man and he will be remembered, above all else, for his love that never ends.
In lieu of flowers family is requesting memorials be made to: Alzheimer’s Association of North Central Texas, 2630 West Frwy., Ste. 100, Fort Worth , Texas 76102.
John is preceded in death by his parents Willis and Evelyn Boyd; brother Bill Boyd; dear aunts Kitty Compton and Mary Hollywood.
