Mary Elizabeth “Liz” Creson Sisco

FORT WORTH — Mary Elizabeth “Liz” Creson Sisco, 75, passed away Friday, Aug. 23, 2013, in Fort Worth after a valiant struggle to conquer an unconquerable illness. Liz courageously took charge of her life and was able to pass easily and comfortably, surrounded by her loving family.
Memorial service: 3 p.m. Friday, Sept. 6, in the sanctuary of First United Methodist Church, 800 W. 5th St., Fort Worth, with the Rev. Meg Witmer-Faile of Keller United Methodist Church, the Rev. Ted Dotts of Lubbock, and the Rev. Phyllis McDougal of First United Methodist Church, Fort Worth, officiating. There will be a gathering immediately following the service at Colonial Country Club.
Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Elizabeth Creson Sisco Memorial Account at Plains Capital Bank. Donations will be distributed to institutes of higher learning and to fund scholarships.
Liz was born in 1937 in Fort Worth, where she spent her early years. In 1948, her family moved to Lubbock, where she attended Lubbock schools, and graduated from Lubbock High School in 1955. She graduated from TCU in Fort Worth in 1959, summa cum laude, with a double major in English literature and French.
After spending years alongside her husband and children in Fort Worth, Memphis, Tenn., and Rochester, Minn., in pursuit of her husband’s medical degree and training, the family settled in Lubbock, where Liz became an active member of the community serving in roles as diverse as Girl Scout leader, non-profit board member, and trustee of the Lubbock Independent School Board, to name just a few. Liz’s work could be found on boards and committees whose purpose was often to enhance children’s lives or the communities within which they lived.
In 1979, Elizabeth Sisco graduated cum laude from Texas Tech School of Law and was published in the Texas Tech Law Review. Her practice of law, and her post-graduate training in law, focused primarily on serving the needs of others through mediation and negotiated disputes.
After graduating in 1994 from Perkins School of Theology, Southern Methodist University, cum laude, with a master’s of divinity, Liz became the senior pastor of the Christ United Methodist Church in Levelland, where she continued to serve with the deep devotion, strength and love that her family and her church community now recognize as her great gift to others. She, in turn, received the gift of knowing she touched lives in a meaningful way and that she was, in effect, blessed to have the opportunity to serve. Those years provided perhaps the happiest moments of her life, second only to the joy she had with her husband, children and grandchildren.
Liz was predeceased by her parents, Daniel Lewis Creson and Mary Elizabeth Blanton Creson.
Survivors: Those family members who survive her are her husband of 54 years, Dr. William Theodore “Ted” Sisco; and their three children, Christopher, Lois and Greg Sisco, and Greg’s wife, Michelle. Also surviving are the grandchildren whom Liz treasured, Jessica, Madeleine, Jordan, Lauren and Luke Sisco.
Her surviving siblings are Daniel Lennard Creson and Carol Lee Bounds, their spouses and their children.
