ALBERT L. BACARISSE, III

I was moved to write my own obit. I left this world on the morning of November 11, 2023 for a better place. My time here was good, and I feel I left it in good standing.  Born on December 7, 1931, in Houston, Texas to Albert and Jeanette Bacarisse. I was fortunate because they were good parents. I can't leave without thanking my grandfather, Albert L. Bacarisse, Sr. He was a great positive influence on my life. I attended schools in Houston and graduated from Reagan High School in 1949.

I liked to tell new acquaintances that I met my wife, Bettie Proctor while we were both in Show Business together, which was correct. She sold tickets and I popped popcorn at the Garden Oaks Theater in Houston. Our life together began when we married on December 16, 1949. It was a good 70 years. Our family grew with the birth of son Louis Bacarisse in 1955 and daughter Judy Bacarisse in 1957. Seven grandchildren, three great granddaughters and two great grandsons followed.

On Christmas night, 2019, I lost my precious wife, Bettie, only a few days after our 70th anniversary and 30 days after her 90th birthday. What a hole that was left in my remaining time. I was fortunate to have a son and daughter along with the seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren to help fill that hole.

I began working at Fidelity Bank and Trust in 1949.  I made a move to Long Point National Bank in 1959 leaving there as President in 1969 to form Harris County Bank also as President. We were able to grow the organization into a Bank Holding Company over the next 20 years. My love for the banking business lasted for almost forty years. During that time, I served as President of the Houston Chapter of the American Institute of Banking and as President of the local chapter of the Bank Administration Institute. I was also one of the first appointed to the Board of the Independent Bankers Association of Texas in its founding years. It was a good time, and I enjoyed the banking business. I later served as Executive Director of the Texas Bond Review Board.

During the time at Fidelity Bank, I was drafted and spent two years in the Army and returned to the bank upon discharge. I spent ten years going to night school while working full time and graduating from the University of Houston in 1959 with a BBA in business.

Bettie and I spent over thirty years accumulating and building the Bacarisse family tree which now goes back to the 1600's. My wish is that someone will take it over and preserve this family history for generations to come. My thanks to Jennifer Bacarisse in France for her help with much of the early years of the tree.

I leave this life to my survivors, my son, Louis Bacarisse, his wife, Holly, my daughter Judy Evans and her husband Tobe, my brother Jerry Bacarisse and his wife, Trudy, and my sister, Jean Haden.  My wife and brothers Lester and Leslie Bacarisse preceded me on this last journey. Also, I leave several nieces, nephews, cousins and many close friends, plus the hundreds of those others in our family tree.

But most of all I leave the world with my loving grandchildren who are destined to change this world. Nick Bacarisse and his wife, Mikaela and my great granddaughter Aviva and great grandson Felix; Sam Bacarisse and his wife, Tracy and my great granddaughter, Clara Jane; Bonnie Bacarisse and her husband, Hector and my great grandson Clyde; Bailey Evans Freeman and her husband Clay and great grand daughter Eleanor; Betsy Evans Helesic and  husband Jacob; Chris Evans; and Rachel Evans Brown and her husband, Mitch. You all along with my son Louis and his wife Holly, daughter Judy and her husband Tobe,  have been a shining light in my life. My love and thanks to you all. May we all meet again.
