Alwilda Stephens

Alwilda Stephens went to be with the Lord Wednesday, May 22, 2024 at the age of 101.
Graveside service:  10 a.m. Friday, May 31, 2024 at Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Park, 5725 Colleyville Blvd., Colleyville, Texas 76034.
Visitation: 5 to7 p.m. Thursday, May 30, 2024 at Brown Owens & Brumley Funeral Home.
She was born in Wapanucka, Oklahoma on November 9, 1922.  She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 53 years, Roy Stephens; Thomas Stephens and wife, Cecelia, and his son, Wade; and granddaughter, Kathryn Stephens.  After high school graduation in Ardmore, Oklahoma and two years of college at Oklahoma College for Women, she came to Fort Worth to work at the Consolidated Bomber Plant building B-24's until she married. She was Rosie the Riveter.
Roy came to Fort Worth when he finished time in the US Army.  They married and stayed in the Fort Worth/Haltom City area.  In 1953 they became members of Birdville Baptist Church.  After their four children were in school, Alwilda enrolled in college and graduated from the University of Texas at Arlington with a B.A. degree.  She was a 7th/8th grade math teacher at Richland Junior School until she retired in 1985.  She delivered Meals on Wheels with Roy for 10 years until his death.  She then continued to volunteer delivering 10 more years with her best friend, Fran Bain.  She also did volunteer work with N.E.E.D. in Haltom City for 15 years.
The family is very grateful for the staff of The Oaks of Granbury and Beyond Faith Hospice who graciously saw to the care of our Mom/Wilda.  You all loved her as much as we did.
She is survived by her son,  Donald Stephens and wife, Judy; her son, Dale Stephens and husband, Robert; and a daughter, Janice McRae and husband, Stuart; five grandchildren,  nine great-grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.
