Charles Edwin "Charlie" Smith II passed away Friday, April 21, 2023 at the age of 74.
Celebration of life: 1:30 p.m. Monday, May 1, 2023 at Brown Owens & Brumley’s Joe B. Brown Memorial Chapel.
Charles was born January 27, 1949 in Fort Worth, Texas to the late Charles Edwin Smith and Mildred Ann Rawdon Smith. He attended and graduated from Arlington High School, University of Texas at Arlington, John Brown University in Arkansas and University of Arkansas Law School. Charlie started his swimming career with the Panther Boys Club of Fort Worth. He was an All-American swimmer in high school. He was an All-American swimmer at UTA and also at John Brown University in Arkansas. He was scheduled to try out for the Olympics in 1972. He called himself a yellow dog democrat.
After graduating law school, he was licensed in both Arkansas and Texas. He became a prominent criminal defense attorney in Tarrant County. During that time, he became a thoroughbred horse trainer, winning multiple stakes and he devoted his time to the practice of law and training and racing thoroughbreds. Charlie lived life to the fullest. His greatest joy was Lola and Madison whom he wanted to show the world. He had a special place in his heart for his Canadian friends.
Survivors: Wife, Terry Propps; daughter, Lola Propps; granddaughter, Madison Propps; step son, Zachary Propps; brother, Robert Smith and wife, Ann; brother, Juan Duran and wife, Jan; nieces, Leah Smith, Rachel Smith, Emily Duran Mason and Stephanie Duran; numerous cousins and friends.
