Dwanna Ann Nichols

FORT WORTH-Dwanna Ann (Bridges) Nichols, 84, passed from this life peacefully on Friday, August 13, 2021, in Fort Worth, Texas, due to complications with kidney disease.
CELEBRATION OF LIFE: A celebration of Dwanna’s life will be held at 10 AM, Monday, August 23, 2021 at Field Street Baptist Church at 201 N. Field St., Cleburne, Texas. Dwanna was born on Friday, February 5, 1937 in Levelland, Texas to the late Peck Bridges and Berniece (Elliott) Minzenmayer. After graduating high school in Hobbs, New Mexico, Dwanna married Kenneth Nichols of Tishomingo, Oklahoma in 1956. They had two sons, Steven and Greg, starting their family in Farmington, New Mexico and later moving to Tishomingo and Durant, Oklahoma. Dwanna earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education from Southeastern State College in Durant and taught school for 35 years in Kingston, Oklahoma. She was affectionately known as “Denny” by her five grandchildren and beloved by her nieces, nephews, and younger cousins. Dwanna began an active retirement in 1998, moving to Abilene, Texas to help care for her mother. She became an integral part of the Crescent Heights Baptist Church community, singing in the choir, teaching Sunday school, and volunteering at every opportunity. Always up for a round of golf and a game of cards, Dwanna also loved to read, paint, travel, make Christmas candy, and exercise at Curves with friends. Dwanna favored her own Grandmother Elliott’s selfless, loving personality and touched so many lives that were made better in knowing her. In the days since she passed, loved ones have reached out and described Dwanna as “truly a remarkable lady,” “the sweetest woman,” “like my second grandma,” “one of my favorite teachers ever,” “the best friend we could ever have,” and “one of the most beautiful human beings I’ve ever known.”
SURVIVORS: Dwanna is survived by her two sons, Steve Nichols and wife Linda of Alvarado, Texas, and Greg Nichols and wife Paula of Saginaw, Texas; grandchildren, Stevie, Denver, Dillon, and London Nichols; two great-grandchildren, Shae and Jaxon; her brother Jim Bridges and wife Jeannie of Pampa, Texas; her aunt Anita (Elliott) Gammons of Sussex, England; and her many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Dwanna was preceded in death by her parents, aunt Rita (Elliott) Wilson, and grandson Adam Nichols.
