Helen M. McClendon, 94, passed away peacefully on November 24, 2023, in Burleson, Johnson County, Texas surrounded by her family.
Helen M. McClendon was born on January 10, 1929 in McKinney, Texas, to the late CH Spurgeon Martin and Benjamin Frankie Nelson Martin.
Helen was married to Bobby Jean McClendon for 20 years.
Helen graduated from Northside High School in Fort Worth, Texas.

Helen was a bookkeeper for an insurance company. She had went to X-ray school to be a technician and because of the radition she was no longer able to continue in this field. She was then hired on at General Dynamics as a timekeeper. While working she got married and became pregnant with her two daughters and became a homemaker. After being a homemaker for 15 years, she decided to return back to work serving as head housekeeping supervisor for several major hotels.

Her hobbies consisted of fishing, gardening, word or number puzzles, and she loved dancing. Helen has too many fond memories to list, however her funniest memory, was chasing a donkey and falling into his “poop”.

Helen is preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Jean McClendon; father, CH Spurgeon Martin; mother, Benjamin Frankie Nelson Martin; sister, Georgia Moore; brothers, Nelson & Marshall Martin; and daughter, Marsha Bennett Van Natta.

Helen is survived by, daughter, Jamie Bennett Beard; grandsons, Christopher Beard and wife Kimberly, Kenneth R. Purcell-Beard and Craig, Gregory Beard and wife Hillery, Hershel Beard and wife Stephanie; 10 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. 


There will be a private Graveside Service for Helen M. McClendon on Tuesday, November 28, 2023, 1:00pm at Fitzhugh Cemetery in Lucas, Texas.
