Jack Dale Boehme

SOUTHLAKE – Jack Dale Boehme age 88 ½, joined God in Heaven on January 13, 2021 in Southlake, Texas. He was born on July 1, 1932 in Copley, Ohio to first generation German immigrants Herman Otto and Lucille Hintz Boehme. Jack was the second to the youngest of six children and the last surviving sibling. Jack was extremely athletic playing Basketball, Baseball and Football for Copley High School. Jack followed his family out west as he accepted a Football Scholarship at the University of Oregon. Injuries kept Jack off the field more that he would have liked, but his love for the University of Oregon and his appreciation for all that they had done for him stayed with him for the rest of his life. Jack spent a few years working in the aerospace industry in California before returning to Oregon to enroll in Pharmacy School. It was during this time in Corvallis that Jack reconnected with fellow Oregon graduate Verla Thompson who had also recently returned from living in California. On August 5, 1961 Jack married Verla June Thompson in Eugene, Oregon. Two years later, they welcomed their first child Bradley Craig Boehme. In 1965, the young family moved to Florence, Oregon as Jack purchased Carroll Drug store. Carroll Drug store became the family business when they built a large new store that included a gift store. In 1967, their second child Barbara June Boehme was born completing the family. The Boehme’s raised their children in Florence and were very involved in the local community including Chamber of Commerce, Elks Lodge, local schools, and church community. Jack and Verla owned Carroll Drug for 20 years before selling to Safeway and moving to the Portland area. Eventually they moved to Texas for warmer weather and to be close to their three oldest grandchildren.

Jack had a great sense of humor and was known for playing pranks on his buddies. He enjoyed playing golf, tennis and going on snow ski trips with friends. Avid Oregon Duck fans, the entire family had season tickets to both football and basketball for decades and would attend regardless of the weather! Jack never forgot the opportunity that the University of Oregon had given him and was deeply committed to helping young athletes and would open his home to any Ducks that needed a home cooked meal or a place to stay for the holidays. Jack was very involved in his grandchildren’s lives and never missed an event or activity they were involved in from elementary school parties to competitive cheer competitions, baseball, and water polo tournaments. He also enjoyed playing cards and spending time with his lunch group nicknamed the “Table of Knowledge”. Jack was a devoted husband and father, doting Grandpa, a patriot, role model and friend. He touched countless lives and will always be admired and respected. Jack is preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Lucille Boehme; brothers, Richard, Robert, David and Donald; sister, Marjorie, and beloved wife, Verla. He is survived by his son, Brad (Monique) Boehme of Aubrey, TX; daughter, Barbara (Nick) Boehme Galt of Southlake, TX; grandchildren, Alex, Andrew and Annalise Galt and Brett and Zac Boehme.
