James was born Friday, September 9, 1938 in Lubbock, Texas to the late Clinton and Vera Martin. He graduated from Ola, Arkansas High School. After high school, he proudly served his country by enlisting in the US Army for 3 years and the National Guard for 2 years. James was a man of many talents and could do anything and did do a wide variety of jobs consisting of farming, ranching, dairy production, National Guardsman during the Selma, AR. Riots, Army Radar in Germany, Hercules Missile Project, and even onto North American Aviation working on the Apollo missions. He then settled down with his beautiful wife Linda and became a family man with the birth of his daughter Cristy and then his son Christopher. He continued doing some other normal jobs like delivering Coca-Cola, Lone Star Pies, and Mission Tortillas. He even had his own store, J & L Food Stores with his wife Linda, and his own distributorship there for a couple years. He raised a wonderful daughter and son and did the best he could for them every day. Dealing with severe sickness for the last 30 years of his life, James never stopped trying to do more. James was always the biggest man in any room he went into. If we lost him, we would just simply look up over the shelves in the store to find his head sticking up. He was bigger than life, stronger than an ox, stubborn as a mule and as gentle as a loving husband, father and grandfather could ever be. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
James is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jimmy Dewayne Martin; and sister-in-law, Sue Martin.
Survivors: Wife of 48 years, Linda Lee Martin; daughter, Cristy Michelle Brand and husband, Barry; son, Chris Martin and wife, Kristen; granddaughter, Brooke Brand; grandson, Austin Brand; grandson, Travis Martin; grandson, Preston Martin; and brother-in-law, James Kay.
