James (Jim) Robert West III passed away peacefully on July 23, 2025, at the age of 92. Born in Montclair, New Jersey to James Robert West II and Marie Elizebeth Schreiner. Jim graduated from Naperville High School, Naperville Illinois, and Tarrant County Community College Ft. Worth Texas with an Associate Degree in Computer Science. He had a long career as a Fire Safety Engineer including several international government contracts.
In January 2025 Jim received “Lifetime Achievement Medal”; from Joslyn Diabetes Center at Harvard University for living courageously with diabetes for over 80 years. He had a lifetime commitment to the constant attention diabetes management requires. At 12 years old he was sterilizing glass syringes, sharpening needles on a stone, and self-injecting insulin. He constantly upgraded to the latest technologies of glucose monitoring and insulin pumps,
He was a Boy Scout; an alter boy in the Episcopal church and in high school he was a member of the bowling team. Additionally, he was a dance instructor and active in skiing and scuba diving. He was a member of the New Jersy Ski Patrol and served as a diver for the Ft. Worth Special Equipment Squad.
Jim actively participated in the Ft Worth Bicycle Club’s “Rusty Chain Gang” riding his bicycles for 20 miles or more into his late 80’s. He actively participated in the Ft. Worth/Dallas “Tour de Cure”, the Fort Worth Citizens Code Blue Patrol and the Ft. Worth Boat Club/ United States Power Squadron.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Peter. He is survived by his life partner, Marianna Alfaro, brother Mike and sister Kathryn and her son, Brad. Nieces Kim, Nancy, Sondra and nephew David.

A “Celebration of Life” for Jim will be held at St. Andrews Catholic Church in the Parish Hall (second floor) on Saturday, August 16th from 2 to 4PM.
