Joe Don Gibbons, a beloved son, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on August 1, 2025, at the age of 68. He died surrounded by his family at Harris Methodist Hospital in Fort Worth, Texas.
Born on May 2, 1957, in Grandfield, Oklahoma, Joe was the son of the late Tommie Gibbons and Josie Messick. He spent his career working as a commercial concrete finisher. Outside of work, Joe's greatest joys were his family and friends. He cherished every moment spent with his grandchildren, often taking them fishing and sharing his love for classic rock music. Joe had an infectious personality, always ready to laugh and have a good time. He made it a point to check in with his family and ensure they stayed connected with one another.
Joe is survived by his significant other, Delanie Davis, and his five children: sons Joe Don Slayton, Chad Slayton, Justin Hooper, and Daniel Gibbons, and daughter Deanna Gibbons. He leaves behind five grandsons: Jaxon Stroud, Jett Hooper, Jagger Hooper, Ayden Shaw, and Andre Shaw. Joe is also survived by his siblings: Betty Brown, Judy Vaughn, Karen Hamilton, Ronnie Gibbons, Dale Crossland, and Jacki Vest. Joe was also a loving uncle to many nieces and nephews who he left a lasting impact on. He was preceded in death by his mother, Josie Messick, and father, Tommie Gibbons, as well as his partners Cindy Davis and Arlene Ramos.
A memorial service will be held on August 15, 2025 at 3:00pm at The Church at Benbrook. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to assist with end-of-life services and to support them during this difficult time.
