John Lee Duncan

May 25, 1936 — January 21, 2024

John Lee Duncan passed from the loving arms of his daughter to the loving arms of his Savior, Jesus Christ, on January 21, 2024 in Fort Worth, Texas surrounded by family who loved him. Born on May 25, 1936 in Kankakee, Illinois, John accepted Jesus as his Savior at 8 years old and lived his life as a true servant of the Lord until God took him home. Before retiring and moving to Texas, he was a long-time church deacon, Sunday School teacher in children's church, and was director of the Awana Club for children at Maranatha Baptist Church of Western Oaks in Oklahoma City. In the many years he served as a volunteer in the children's ministry, he led countless children to the Lord. In his retirement, he loved the Lord and his family very much. He was a loyal member of Worth Baptist Church since his move to Fort Worth, Texas twenty-two years ago. We are all better for having known and loved him.

Prior to his retirement, John worked hard to provide for his family, working as an insurance adjuster and manager of American States Insurance Company in Peoria, Illinois, and a security guard and driver for Canteen in Oklahoma City. He was a thoughtful historian, a deep thinker, and biblical scholar his whole life. If you knew him well you surely remember his joking nature and silliness, as well as his love for Elvis and wildlife. He was always ready to lighten the mood and loved playing games with family and friends. From Rook, to Skee-Ball, to Skip-Bo, to Cornhole - he was always up for a good time. He often joked that his love for Fannie May chocolate and Coca-Cola would only help keep him in "perfect bod" condition. His earthly body failed him as all earthly bodies do, but his heavenly body is perfect and he has been restored. He is already missed by those he left behind on Earth, but the wonderful memories he took time to create with us all remain.

John married his high school sweetheart Anna Mae Higgins in 1954 and they were a loving couple for 59 years until she passed in 2013. He is survived by his only daughter, Tamra Rene' [Duncan] Lahmer, his grandchildren, Cassandra Rene' [Duncan] Engel and her husband John Engel, Arthur Lee Flowers, Miles Cameron Duncan, Cheree Annette Flowers, Christopher Lee Duncan and his wife Jourdan Duncan, William Lawrence Lahmer, Jr., Dwayne Daniel Lahmer, and Randi Lyn Craig. He was blessed to have many great-grandchildren, including Alexanndria Cheney Pence, Christa Engel, Devon Flowers, Tristan Engel, Devonte Flowers, Ashton Flowers, Ashanti Flowers, Mason Isaiah Easter, Anneyah Lovee Flowers, Omar Elijah Flowers, Cameron Dwayne Lahmer, Sadie Anna Engel, Khloe Alexis Lewis, Logan Wyatt Lahmer, Nolyn Dwayne Lahmer, Valencia Renee' Craig, Colin Daniel Lahmer, Shayla Monet Craig, Penelope Rose Flowers, Lele Flowers, Arthur Lee Flowers IV, and great-great grandchild, Hayden Timothy Pence.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest Duncan and Bonnie Divers Duncan, as well as the love of his life, Anna Mae Duncan, and their 2 sons, Glen Lee Duncan and Rodney Wayne Duncan, as well as his loving son-in-law, William Louis Lahmer, Sr. Our family rejoices as we imagine what that reunification must have been like. Well done, good and faithful servant. Enter thou into the joy of thy Lord.

John donated to animal charities and wildlife preservation throughout his life. If you are looking to honor his memory, please consider making a tributary donation to the Humane Society of North Texas in his memory at https://www.hsnt.org/make-a-tribute
