Leslie Lowell Byrd

MILLSAP-Leslie Lowell Byrd, was born in his parents’ home in Millsap, Texas on Thursday, October 3, 1940. Seventy-nine years later, on December 9, 2019, in that same house, while surrounded by praying family, he left this earth to rejoice with his Savior, Jesus, in Heaven. Celebration of life: 2 p.m. Saturday, December 14, 2019 at Calvary Baptist Church in Mineral Wells, Texas.
Memorials: In lieu of flowers, Lowell’s family requests donations be made to the Builders for Christ ministry or to the Africa Missions ministry at Calvary Baptist Church. Donations to these organizations may also be made via paypal- gracegirl1212@gmail.com.
Lowell spent his life following the word of God closely and striving to share the Gospel of Christ with anyone who would listen. He was ordained as a Baptist Deacon in 1971 and held the ordination until his passing. His greatest desire was for all those he knew and loved, as well as those he didn’t know, to accept the grace of God’s salvation.
He began farming alongside his parents as a young boy; most notably raising turkeys and showing them in stock shows across the state of Texas. His passion for agriculture and being outdoors continued throughout his life. He greatly enjoyed fishing and golf, especially when his family could join him. He instilled a love of gardening and working with one’s hands in the hearts of his children and grandchildren.
In addition to being a successful farmer, Lowell had a long career in the glass industry; including owning his own company, Byrd Glass, in Millsap before retiring as a Glazier Instructor from Binswanger Glass in 2004 after 23 years of service to the company. He proudly served on the National Glazier’s Board and is well remembered by those who worked beside him through the years.
Lowell was faithfully dedicated in service to the Millsap community and countless others throughout his lifetime. He held positions on the Millsap ISD school board, the Millsap Water Supply board, and on the Millsap Farmers CO-OP board. He was a longtime booster of the local FFA chapter and was a mentor to many people. After his retirement from the glass industry, Lowell and his wife, Luan, spent 6 years traveling with Builders for Christ helping to build churches in various parts of the country. He was overjoyed at the opportunity to be God’s hands and feet.
Preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and Lucile Byrd.
