It is with deep love and heartfelt sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Maria Lucina Contreras, who was called home to the Lord on Mother's Day, May 11, 2025, at the age of 75. Born on July 14, 1949, in San Luis Potosí, Mexico, Maria was raised in Reynosa, Tamaulipas, and came to the United States at the age of 14. She made her home in Fort Worth, Texas, where she built a life full of love, faith, and devotion as a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.
Maria was a woman of boundless strength and compassion, whose heart was always open to others. She worked tirelessly to support her family, yet it was her warmth, generosity, and kindness that truly defined her. Her nurturing spirit was evident in every aspect of her life-from the wonderful homemade Mexican meals she lovingly prepared to the laughter and joy she shared with family and friends. She welcomed everyone with open arms and an open heart, making all who entered feel seen, cared for, and part of the family.
Throughout her life, Maria held a variety of jobs that reflected her strong work ethic and dedication to providing for her family, including work in restaurants, furniture manufacturing, and electronics/computer assembly. She eventually retired to focus on being a homemaker. She found joy in tending to her garden, caring for her plants and flowers, and spending precious time with her grandchildren, who were the light of her life.
Her unwavering faith was the cornerstone of her life. As a devout Catholic, Maria found strength and comfort in her deep love for God and the Blessed Mother. Grounded in that faith, she faced life's challenges with grace and quietly passed that strength on to those she loved.
Maria was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Isabel Perez Contreras, who passed away on July 20, 2020. We find peace in knowing they are now reunited in eternal rest. She was also preceded in death by her mother, Eulalia Cardona; her father, Nicolas Rangel; and her siblings Jose Luis Esquivel, Leobardo Esquivel, and Mario Esquivel.
She is survived by her children: Ann Herrera and her husband Samuel D. Herrera; Teresita Salinas and her husband Edward Salinas; and Isabel Moses Contreras. She also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren: Michael Salinas, Marc Anthony Salinas, Elisa Salinas, and Khloe Contreras. In addition, she is survived by her brothers and sisters: Santos Rangel, Anita Rangel, Jesus Moreno, Martha Moreno, Rosalinda Esquivel, and Juanita Salcido.
A visitation and rosary will be held on Thursday, May 15, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Brown Owens & Brumley Funeral Home Chapel, 425 S. Henderson St., Fort Worth, TX 76104. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, May 16, at 10:00 AM at All Saints Catholic Church, 214 NW 20th St., Fort Worth, TX 76164. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff at Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Fort Worth, Level 1 Trauma Center, for the exceptional care and compassion shown during Maria's final days. "Your professionalism, tenderness, and unwavering commitment truly reflected the highest standard of care. You lived up to every part of your Level 1 designation-and for that, we are deeply grateful. Your kindness will never be forgotten."
Maria's love, faith, and kindness live on in the hearts of all who knew her. She was truly a mother to many, a constant source of comfort, and an example of unconditional love. Her memory will be cherished forever.
May she rest in peace, and may perpetual light shine upon her.
