Mary Lou Griffin

October 2, 1935 — April 23, 2024

Mary Lou Griffin passed away on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, at her current home in Fort Worth, Texas.  Prior to 2023, Mary Lou was a resident of Asheville, NC for many years.  The daughter of John and Blanche Talbert, Mary Lou was born on October 20, 1935, in Spray, NC.  She graduated from Mars Hill College and Western Carolina University, and later earned a master’s degree in education from UNCC.   A retired teacher, Mary Lou enjoyed attending classes at UNCA Osher Lifelong Learning Institute.  Mary Lou was a member of First Baptist Church of Asheville for many years.  During 64 years of marriage, Mary Lou traveled the globe with her husband Grady and enjoyed spending time with family and friends at their Litchfield Beach condo.

Mary Lou was preceded in death by her brothers John Talbert, Steve Talbert and Paul Talbert.  She is survived by her children, Celeste Griffin Mullis, of Arlington, TX, and Mark Griffin (Ella Strebel), of San Mateo, CA,  her grandchildren, Jordan Wall (Ryan), of Anchorage, AK, Michael Mullis (Cristal), of Houston, TX and her great-grandsons Maxwell and Mateo Mullis, of Houston, TX.

Mary Lou greatly loved her family and friends, her church, life-long learning, and classical music. Memorials can be made to First Baptist Church, 5 Oak Street, Asheville, NC 28801, or the charity of your choice.  

A memorial service will be held at 2 pm Thursday, May 2, at First Baptist Church of Asheville.
