A Life of Adventure, Community, and Legacy
Mary "Jo" Spencer, a trailblazing spirit, devoted matriarch, and beloved friend, passed away, leaving behind a rich legacy of love, adventure, and service. Born in Athens, Texas, to the late Lois and Emory Burgamy, she grew up to live a life that defied conventions and warmed countless hearts. She was a proud graduate of Trimble Tech High School. As an adult, she completed her Associates degree in Computer Science from Tarrant County Community College.
Jo, one of the first women Harley Davidson riders in the area and a proud, dedicated member of the Panther City Motorcycle Club.
While she loved the roar of an engine, her greatest joy was her family. Jo is survived by her devoted husband, Pat Spencer; her son, Dan Williams and wife Deborah; and her daughter, Stacey Aucoin and husband Chris. Her legacy lives on through her grandchildren, Sarah Lawson with husband Jamie and David Williams with wife Christena. She held a uniquely legendary status as "Big G" to her seven great-grandsons and one great-granddaughter, who adore her fiercely.
Jo was a woman who wore many hats, excelling in every career and hobby she touched:
From managing Dairy Queens to serving as a bank teller, Jo worked hard and connected with everyone she met. Her absolute favorite role, however, was at the Texas Workforce, where she spent her days truly helping people get back on their feet.
In the late 1970s and 1980s, she was a cornerstone of the community as an active leader and Day Camp Director for Camp Fire, guiding the next generation with patience and fun.
Jo was a highly respected wildflower photographer. Generations of local school children knew her as the go-to expert who helped them identify wildflowers for their school projects.
A master of her craft, she was an active member of the Leather Workers Guild. Alongside her husband Pat, she spent years hand-crafting and custom-painting leather belts for Santa Claus impersonators, earning her an honorary membership in the Santa Claus Club.
"She lived fiercely, loved deeply, and left the world a more colorful place than she found it."
