Randall “Randy” Vernon Whorton, 61, passed from this life on May 25th, 2024 after battling physical challenges and a recent diagnosis of cancer. He was brave and determined through it all.
Randy was born on May 19th, 1963 in Bossier City, Louisiana to a United States Air Force family. After early years of traveling during his father’s military career, they ultimately settled in Azle, Texas.
Randy graduated from Azle High School in 1981. Soon afterwards he followed in his dad’s footsteps and enlisted in the Air Force. With diligent study and hard work, he achieved the title of Tactical Aircraft Maintenance Specialist.
Randy subsequently joined the 301st Fighter Wing Combat Support Squadron at the then Carswell Air Force Base in Fort Worth, Texas. As an Air Reserve Technician, he serviced and maintained the F-4 Phantom and the F-16 Fighting Falcon jets.
Randy later left the Air Force with an honorable discharge and successfully earned his diploma as a Certified Diesel Technician. He also had careers as an Operations Mechanic and CNC Technician.
Known to most as a quiet and thoughtful man, Randy was an analytically minded and highly skilled mechanic and problem solver. He said any job worth doing was worth doing right the first time. He had the talents and skills to restore and repair just about anything.
Those that knew him well can also attest to and will miss his fun side and clever, quick-witted sense of humor.
Randy was preceded in death by his parents Delmer and Sharon Whorton, and his sister Pamela Whorton.
He is survived by his children, Anthony Whorton of Fort Worth, Texas; Sarah Whorton of Oshkosh, Wisconsin; Chrisopher Blake Woodruff of Boyd, Texas; and brother Robert Whorton (Linda) of Azle, Texas.
With a life-long soft spot for animals, he is missed by Connie, his little devoted feline companion whom he befriended as a feral kitten. She lifted his spirits and brought him comfort for many years. Connie is now enjoying her new home with Anthony.
Randy will be interred with military honors at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery on Friday, July 26th, 2024 at 3:15 p.m.
Warm summer sun, shine kindly here
Warm southern wind, blow softly here
Green sod above, lie light, lie light
Good night, dear heart
Good night, good night
To live in the hearts we leave behind is not to die
