Reverend Eddie Lee Wells, 88, died January 21, 2022, in Burleson, Texas. He was born February 15, 1933, in Bartlesville, OK, to Ernest Lee Wells and Anna Mae (Morland) Wells. Eddie attended Technical High School in Fort Worth; Arlington State College, studying electrical engineering; Texas Christian University, graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in mathematics and minor in physics; and McCormick Theological Seminary in Chicago, graduating with a Bachelor of Divinity degree. Eddie was ordained at Hemphill Presbyterian Church in Fort Worth by Brazos (Grace) Presbytery on June 23, 1968.
During his thirty-year career as pastor, Eddie served churches in Texas, Louisiana, and Arkansas. After retirement, he worked for Mo-Ranch conference center in Hunt, Texas, as Director of Church Relations. At the Presbytery level, he served on numerous committees, chairing many of them. He was the chair of Synod of Sun’s Nominating Committee from 1977 to 1979.
Eddie met his beloved wife, Shirley, in high school. They were married for 70 years, raising four children while Eddie attended colleges and seminary.
He is survived by Shirley Ann (Spencer) Wells; four children, Reverend David Lee Wells and wife, Miriam; Christine Ann Benson and husband Dr. Kenneth Benson; Debra Marie Erbes and husband, Jack; Phillip Ray Wells and wife, Patricia Kneblick; sister, Gertrude Marie Delp; eleven grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Ronald Ray Wells.
Eddie’s memorial service will be at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 7001 Trail Lake Dr., Fort Worth on Saturday, February 12, 2022, at 2 pm followed by inurnment at Laurel Land Memorial Park. Masks required at the service. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Westminster Presbyterian Church in Eddie’s name.
