William Robert “Bob” Kirby was born August 3, 1940 to the late Robert Spurlock and Millie Marie Watts Kirby in Dallas, Texas. Bob was deeply proud of his service in the U.S. Navy from 1960 to 1965, and was well known for his love of Texas. He was raised by loving parents, married the love of his life, and raised and nurtured his two daughters, of whom he was very proud. He was a respected Air Traffic Controller, and he maintained many of those deep friendships until the day he died. The pinnacle years of his life were the ones he shared with his grandchildren. Bob served his church with dignity and respect as MC. Generations of men will follow his example for years to come. Bob had a deep impact on every person he encountered throughout his life. He had a way of making every person feel like they were awesome. He always understood the value of relationships, and that time spent with someone is of utmost importance. Even after his illness began, he never lost that infectious smile of his. He fought a tough fight because he knew how much he was loved.
Bob’s hobby, interest, and obsession was experiencing his grandchildren grow and achieve. His grandchildren were his rock stars, and he was their number one fan. Anyone who knew him knew how committed he was to his beloved grandchildren. He also loved keeping track of birthdays, anniversaries, Texas milestones, and a multitude of other important dates. He worked very diligently every day to make sure he never forgot an important event. Bob and Gloria also made a mission out of going to see homebound church members and friends who needed something, or just needed a visit.
